2025 TOP 50

01. TOGETHER
score - 71
At it's best when things were getting most despearte for the main characters. This part should've gone on for longer. Legit humour among the body horror
S: Dave Franco, Alison Brie D: Michael Shanks

02. WEAPONS
score - 71
Cregger's 'Barbarian' follow-up is similar in tone, style, and pacing; but a very different story. A fun movie, without fun subject matter. Plot holes, but works.
S: Julia Garner, Josh Brolin D: Zach Cregger

03. BRING HER BACK
score - 70
'Talk To Me' follow-up is a rare modern movie where I actually wanted a longer runtime. Had so much that could be expanded on. Strong.
S: Billy Barratt, Sally Hawkins D: Danny & Michael Philippou

04. SINNERS
score - 70
Don't often see a period gangster, oppression, horror, musical; but here it is. Mostly succeeds blending it all, but rushes parts, effecting overall pacing.
S: Michael B Jordan, Miles Caton D: Ryan Coogler

05. ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER
score - 70
Like PTA's masterpiece 'Boogie Nights', this straddles multiple genres. It's good, and the acting is strong, but doesn't satisfy like 'Boogie' did.
S: Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn D: Paul Thomas Anderson

06. COMPANION
score - 69
Best seen fresh, as the trailer gives too much away. Successfully hits multiple genres, by embracing the character flaws, that drive plausible plot moves.
S: Sophie Thatcher, Jack Quaid D: Drew Hancock

07. DANGEROUS ANIMALS
score - 68
Courtney dials it up in his villainous role in this 'Wolf Creek On Water'. It's probably a bit too much, but if he didn't do it, the movie wouldn't be as memorable.
S: Hassie Harrison, Jai Courtney D: Sean Byrne

08. FINAL DESTINATION: BLOODLINES
score - 67
Embraces the concept's stupid-fun, which works. Would've been a mistake to try and be serious with it. One of the strongest in the series.
S: Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Teo Briones D: Zach Lipovsky, Adam B Stein

09. FRANKENSTEIN
score - 67
Looks fantastic. Has moments of destructive brilliance. But is a little overblown for the fizzer of a climax it has. Deserved a bigger ending, faithful or not.
S: Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi D: Guillermo Del Toro

10. PREDATOR: KILLER OF KILLERS
score - 67
Low expectations going in and was surprisingly satisfied with it. Violent and fast-paced, there's enough story, while still keeping things simple.
S: Michael Biehn, Rick Gonzalez D: Dan Trachtenberg

11. HEART EYES
score - 66
Entertaining horror-comedy, that takes self-aware humour to 'Scream' levels. Not as good as that clear inspiration, but fun and worthy of the planned sequel.
S: Mason Gooding, Olivia Holt D: Josh Ruben

12. HAVOC
score - 66
The wait was immense. 4 years between shooting and release. Half way in, it felt like the wait was worth it. But a fizzer climax ultimately made it disappointing.
S: Tom Hardy, Jessie Mei Li D: Gareth Evans

13. RIFF RAFF
score - 66
A lot of positives in this crime-comedy, but ends a bit sudden, and leaves too much unanswered. A few laughs, but at it's best when it's at it's darkest.
S: Jennifer Coolidge, Ed Harris D: Dito Montiel

14. SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT
score - 66
Remake of an 80s slasher that goes down a different route with the story. Ended up with something more entertaining, but probably less memorable.
S: Rohan Campbell, Ruby Modine D: Mike P Nelson

15. NIGHT ALWAYS COMES
score - 66
Borrows a lot in tone and story from 'Good Time'. This isn't as good, but the same dark trip into the town's seedy underbelly is worth a watch.
S: Vanessa Kirby, Jennifer Jason Leigh D: Benjamin Caron

16. THE AMATEUR
score - 66
Bit of a hidden gem. While the timelines and plot moves in it are a bit silly, its entertaining, and well-paced. Good, but could've done a bit more with it.
S: Rami Malek, Laurence Fishburne D: James Hawes

17. BETTER MAN
score - 66
Surprisingly good biopic, where (mostly) the music works well. The chimpanze novelty doesn't add anything, and actually distracts. Worth watching. S: Robbie Williams, Jonno Davies D: Michael Gracey

18. THE KILLER'S GAME
score - 65
More "switch off your brain" fun-action from Perry after 'Day Shift'. Bautista can act, but this role doesn't suit. A younger or faster guy seems better-suited.
S: Dave Bautista, Sofia Boutella D: JJ Perry

19. THE SURFER
score - 65
What happens if 'Point Break's Bodhi starts a cult instead of robbing banks? Find out. But instead of Johnny Utah, it's Nic Cage slipping into madness.
S: Nicolas Cage, Julian McMahon D: Lorcan Finnegan

20. WOLF MAN
score - 65
Moments of brilliance, but didn't quite deliver on everything. The slow transformation was great, but didn't do enough in the last act, post-change.
S: Julia Garner, Christopher Abbott D: Leigh Whannell

21. THE MONKEY
score - 65
Fun horror blends 'Final Destination' and 'Talk To Me'. Some clever kills and laughs, but once it establishes the concept, it almost runs out of ideas.
S: Theo James, Tatiana Maslany D: Osgood Perkins

22. MICKEY 17
score - 65
It does a lot right, but also feels like they're holding back. For a movie where violence, death, sex, and drugs are crucial to the plot; it's surprisingly tame.
S: Robert Pattinson, Steven Yuen D: Bong Joon Ho

23. THE HOME
score - 65
A couple of silly plot turns are justified by a final act reveal. But that reveal itself, is also pretty silly. The surprisingly violent finale act adds a bit.
S: Pete Davidson, John Glover D: James DeMonaco

24. EDEN
score - 65
As an island survival movie, it's a bit tame. As a re-telling of a true story, it's compelling. One that's more impactful to know it's a true story before seeing it.
S: Jude Law, Ana De Armas D: Ron Howard

25. GOOD FORTUNE
score - 65
Essentially a body-swap comedy, with a slight twist. It's predictable, and overly nice, but it's clever enough, every character is likeable, and there's some laughs.
S: Seth Rogen, Aziz Ansari D: Aziz Ansari

26. SHE RIDES SHOTGUN
score - 65
Some really good stuff here. A few different casting choices, some better shot action scenes, and tighter editing, and it would really be something.
S: Taron Egerton, Ana Sophia Heger D: Nick Rowland

27. A WORKING MAN
score - 65
There's some Statham-action movie fatigue, as he seemingly does the same movie repeatedly. No new ground here, but one of his best in the last decade.
S: Jason Statham, Michael Pena D: David Ayer
28. THE SIEGE AT THORN HIGH
score - 65
Pretty good. Does a lot of non-Hollywood stuff, which is refreshing. But stalls in the middle, when the story needed to progress, then rushes the ending.
S: Morgan Oey, Omara N Esteghlal D: Joko Anwar

29. THUNDERBOLTS*
score - 65
Some great ideas, but didn't quite land it all. Had dark elements, but should've gone deeper, to force teamwork to succeed, and build chemistry.
S: Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan D: Jake Schreier

30. NOVOCAINE
score - 65
Good idea, but didn't make the most of the premise. Didn't utilise it's R-rating or running time, in terms of violence, comedy, or action.
S: Jack Quaid, Amber Midthunder D: Dan Berk, Robert Olsen

31. THE ROSES
score - 65
No expectations for this remake, based on modern wokeness, and the original being average anyway. Was surprisingly satisfying, even if flawed.
S: Olivia Colman, Benedict Cumberbatch D: Jay Roach

32. CLOUD
score - 65
Had elements of classic crime, but cocked it up leaving "too much too thin". Needs more backstory, character development, and cleverness.
S: Masaki Suda, Kotone Furukawa D: Kiyoshi Kurosawa

33. SUPERMAN
score - 65
Definitely not dark like Snyder's. An over-reliance on cutesy scenes to try and get laughs, but enough action and fresh movie characters to work ok.
S: David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan D: James Gunn

34. WAKE UP DEAD MAN: A KNIVES OUT MYSTERY
score - 65
Much like the previous 2 movies in the series, this is entertaining and enjoyable. Nothing special, and no real rewatch value, but looks good and acting is fine.
S: Daniel Craig, Josh O'Connor D: Rian Johnson

35. THE ACCOUNTANT 2
score - 65
Good, but a considerable step-down from the original, which had some of it's own issues. A reliance on "xxx can hack anything…", which is lazy writing.
S: Ben Affleck, Jon Bernthal D: Gavin O'Connor

36. DEN OF THIEVES 2: PANTERA
score - 65
If the original is 'Heat', this is 'The Score'. A clever heist movie that's ultimately fogettable. It's fine, but levels below the grittier first film.
S: Gerard Butler, O'Shea Jackson Jr D: Christian Gudegast
